The Vineyard Youth Tennis Foundation began in 1997 by providing free tennis lessons in the West Tisbury and Oak Bluffs Schools. VYT then purchased 12 acres of land at the "blinker light" and built 4 clay courts, a backboard and a clubhouse. The four Har-tru courts were opened for play on July 22, 2002. Daily instruction began in the summer months of July and August, serving an average of 250 children weekly. An inflatable bubble was erected over two courts during the winter months so the children could improve their skills without interruption.
The Clubhouse is a beautiful Vineyard style building designed by Charles Sullivan, with interior design by Twanette Tharp. It contains boys and girls locker rooms and bathrooms, a reception area, a media room, offices and a viewing deck for tennis looking out over two courts. All of VYT's capital and operating expenses have been met by private donations.

Arrowhead Horse farm

Arrowhead Farm is the leading year-round horse boarding and horse riding facility on Martha's Vineyard. The Farm was established in 1983, and provides certified & licensed instructors, teaching proper technique & horsemanship to all ages.

Even little kids love coming to this working farm, a place where they can do all manner of farmer's jobs, from collecting eggs and milking cows to feeding the animals and harvesting crops. Kids can even weed -- a chore they attack with surprising gusto once they learn how such unwanted vegetation kills surrounding plants. None of the work is for show -- everything produced gets either sold or cooked. The goal is to connect kids to the roots of the food supply, helping them understand where the chicken at the grocery store comes from. The fun is just a happy fringe benefit.

With a forested setting at the end of the paved road, and set back 300' from any traffic, The Tashmoo Cottage and Hideaway offer great security for vacationing kids, an peace of mind for parents.  Green areas next to all of the three houses we offer for rent, have oppoprtunities for family play, or for allowing your child to intermingle with neighboring kids and make that special summer friend connection .
The best kids activity on this sandy island, is of course time spent on the beach. The local Tashmoo Beach, 1 to 1-1/2 mile from the Tashmoo Cottage and Hideaway, has a shallow lagoon, with gentle baby waves.  It is  perfect for exploring the abundent shore life for toddelers to teenagers.  The older kids also have the challenge of ocean swimming on the Vineyard Sound side of the beach area.  A cut in the sandbank, where the ocean meets the lake, offer boat activities to observe or join, if you bring a kajak or sailing vessel to the beach.  "Wind's Up", offer rentals on Beach Road, Vineyard Haven.
